My favorite school lunch was Chinese cabbage and canned tuna salad. Instead of tuna, I made mine a cheaper dish by using bonito flakes.

Add sesame seeds for a delicious touch.
Because the core is tough, separate the boiling times.
Shaking on some black pepper gives it a little punch. Recipe by Hani-1003

Ingredients

2 servings
  1. 1/4Chinese cabbage
  2. 2 smallpackets Bonito flakes
  3. 1 tbsp●Japanese dashi stock powder
  4. 1 tbsp●Sugar
  5. 1/3 tsp●Salt
  6. 21/2-3 tablespoons Mayonnaise
  7. 1 tbspGround sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

    Roughly chop the cabbage (cut the big leaves lengthwise to start). Mix the ingredients marked ● and set aside.

    Boil the cabbage in plenty of water (boil the core for longer and boil the leaves quickly). Drain and when it's cool enough to handle, squeeze out the water.

    In a bowl, combine the cabbage from Step 2 and sprinkle in the ingredients marked ●. Set aside to chill.

    Squeeze out any excess water. Add mayonnaise and sesame seeds and mix well. Lastly, add the bonito flakes and toss with a pair of chopsticks.
