Shepherd's pie
Classic shepherds pie. Simple to make.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Heat the oil in a pan, then soften the onion, peppers and carrots for a few mins. When soft, turn up the heat, crumble in the lamb/meat and brown, tipping off any excess fat. Add the tomato purée, season to taste then cover and cook.
- 2
Meanwhile, heat the oven to 160C/ gas, then make the mash. Boil the potatoes in salted water for 10-15 mins until tender. Drain, then mash with the butter, cheese and milk.
- 3
Put the mince sauce into an ovenproof dish, top with the mash and ruffle with a fork. Bake for 20-25 mins until the top is starting to colour and the mince is bubbling through at the edges. Sprinkle cheese on top. Leave to stand for 5 mins before serving.

Short rib shepherd's pie Short rib shepherd's pie
This is my take on shepherd's pie. Instead of mince, I prefer to use beef short ribs. It complicates the cook, but the end result is so much more decadent. To make things easier, the beef and mash can be made separately ahead of time, and everything assembled once you're ready to put it in the oven. Robert Gonzal -

Mince shepherd's pie Mince shepherd's pie
This is a much simpler, straightforward version of shepherd's pie than the one featuring short ribs which I posted ages ago, and can be made in about half the time. Even so, it's still really delicious. During assembly, it may seem like there's a lot of mashed potato. I've been assured by our resident potato monarch (a.k.a. my wife, due to my Asian heritage and the fact that I grew up on rice) that the meat to mash ratio is correct. Robert Gonzal -
Cheesy Shepherd's Pie Cheesy Shepherd's Pie
We've always loved traditional dishes from the British Isles. I guess it's just in my family's DNA. I followed the traditional shepherd's pie recipes I saw online, but then added a few extra touches to make it my own - and I can honestly say it's one of the best meals I've ever made... and I cook A LOT! lindschap -
Ridiculously Good Shepherd's Pie Ridiculously Good Shepherd's Pie
It's been described as the kind of shepherd's pie you might be served 50 years ago, and I think that's fair. It's so good that it will take you back, spiritually, to the childhood you should have had. Sean -

Rizzy's Doria-Style Shepherd's Pie Rizzy's Doria-Style Shepherd's Pie
This is an original recipe from my kitchen. I never feel quite full after eating the normal meat and potato shepherd's pie. If you get tired of this doria version, it's good with about 300 g of macaroni or penne.Try adding veggies (zucchini, tomato, spinach), mushrooms, beans, or bacon if you like.I add different things each time and make tons of variations! For 3-4 servings. Recipe by Rizzy cookpad.japan -

Thanks so much for coming back to Cookpad again and post for the recipe. I love pie but never had a chance to cook the pie. If time allows, I would love to cook pie at the office next week. Hope I can learn more recipe ideas from you. Thanks again. Best regards, Owen from Cookpad Africa team
