Chow Mein and Dumplings - Low Effort

Leslie Lellstar @Lellst4rsM34ls
Make a tastebud pleaser with low effort, not having to go to an expensive restaurant. These ingredients are so cheap, and can be bought in bulk.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Fry 1/2 bag of coleslaw in oil. Add brussel sprouts and any other desired veggies, finely chopped. Add worseterchire sauce if desired.
- 2
Cook these noodles, following directions on package. Add provided seasoning, and seaweed package if desired. Mix in egg if desired.
- 3
Fry the dumplings as directed on the package. Found these in the freezer section at a standard grocery store.
- 4
I like to buy microwaveable basmati rice to have on the side with a little soy sauce. 90 seconds later, cooked perfect each time 👌

Super Easy & Inexpensive (Spaghetti) Vegetable Chow Mein
As with any stir fry, you can use whatever veg you like - roughly 2 cups' worth. I just used onion, celery and carrot because that's what I had on hand, but they also happen to be some of the most accessible and inexpensive veg most of us can buy.If you've never bought oyster sauce before and don't have an Asian market nearby, you can probably find it in the Asian section of your local big box grocer (including Walmart), Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Cost Plus (World Market), and, of course, online. If you're wary of trying oyster sauce because you hate oysters, I can assure you it doesn't taste much like oysters at all, and it's a quite delicious and versatile condiment that adds a deep, ever so slightly smoky, somewhat soy sauce like saltiness to your dishes.Whether you use the traditional or cold, shallow water start method of boiling pasta, I suggest starting that step before you prep your veg so you can work more efficiently. Of course you have to be mindful to watch the pasta and take it off the heat before it gets overcooked, but since this dish mimics chow mein, and chow mein is a a softer kind of noodle, you have a little leeway.

"Chow" means stir fried, and "mein" means noodles in mandarin. Inspired by a clip on youtube. I find it very delicious.

Chicken Chow Mein
I have been making this for years. But I used to buy the chow Mein packet mix. I thought 'how hard could it be to make it myself?'. The answer is 'really easy!'. It's basically oyster & soy sauce, ground cumin & coriander, throw in some chicken and veggies of your choice and some noodles. That's about it! So nice and a good way to get rid of those veggies that need to be used. Ground beef instead of chicken pieces works well too. Enjoy! 😀

This is not an authentic chow mein recipe but one created close to traditional recipes. My recipes are geared to please my family and our tastes. This is another spicy version but you may omit the spice or tone it down. Either way, I hope you'll enjoy it too.

Prawns Chow Mein
You can make this recipe with chicken also, but in that case use chicken stock instead of vegetable stock. If you don't get fresh stock use stock cubes. But fresh ingredients make the dish better. Oyster sauce is the main sauce used to make Chow Mein, but I like to add a little soy sauce too. You can skip adding it if you want. You can also use any other vegetables of your choice. Broccoli & bell peppers would make the dish colourful. Make sure you don't cook the noodles or the vegetables too much in the initial stage, then everything will be overcooked in the end. Be careful while adding salt, the sauces are salty. This might not be the traditional Chow Mein Recipe. I don't believe oregano is used 😉 So if you don't want to then skip it.

Easy Weeknight Chicken & Drop Dumplings
This is a quick and easy, but delicious, chicken and dumplings dish that I enjoy whipping up when I don't have time to make a "long version". This still looks like a lot of ingredients, but I promise it comes together in under 45 minutes. The dumplings are fluffy and biscuit like instead of dense and chewy because I don't like the texture of dense dumplings.

Pork Loin Chow Mein Soup

Vegetable Chow Mein - Stirfried Noodles
Stirfry seems simple, but it can be really tricky. I have been making stirfries my entire life and just haven't been able to get it right... Until recently. Every single time I had cooked a homemade stirfry, I would end up with a soupy mess. Vegetable sweat=not pleasant. Even cooking the vegetables to perfection is an art. There is nothing worse than a chowmein with vegetables that have been completely obliterated! The keys to making this method work are stirfrying the vegetables separately, working quickly, always cooking on high and adding a flavorful sauce at the very end. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT cook everything together in an effort to simplify the recipe. Trust me. You won't regret using the extra dishes.Feel free to use the vegetables of your choice. You may not go through all 7 tablespoons of sesame oil. Use only as much as you need to get the job done and to help keep everything from sticking or burning.

Veggie Packed Chow Mein
A healthy-ish spin on the chow mein we all love from asian restaurants. Some of the noodles are just replaced with ALL the vegetables. This is best prepared in a wok, but if you cook with a electric stove a large sautee pan with high sides will do. I use dried noodles called "Wok Nudeln" here in Germany. I never saw the equivalent in the states, but then again I wasn't looking. It will work with any asian egg noodle, however. You will just skip adding water to the pan when cooking the noodles. If you're lucky enough to have access to fresh noodles, you don't need to do anything extra. If you're using the longer noodles that come kinda like blocks you should blanch them just until they separate. Remove from heat and toss with sesame oil. Garnish with scallion greens and dried chili peppers. Goes great with stir fry.
