Peanut Sauce for Siomay or Batagor

Since I was a kid, I often made peanut sauce for siomay or batagor, but it never turned out delicious 😂😢😥. The texture was always too thick, and the oil just wouldn't come out 😢. I once tried using coconut milk, but it didn't taste good (probably misread the recipe since I was just a kid 😂). I also tried using mashed steamed potatoes, which was quite tasty. Back then, I would just blend the peanuts with water and cook it on low heat, but it took forever for the oil to come out. It turns out you need to cook the blended peanuts first until the oil comes out before adding water.

Ingredients

  1. 3 1/2 ozpeanuts, fried
  2. 3red chili peppers, briefly fried
  3. 1 clovegarlic, briefly fried
  4. 5 tablespoonscooking oil
  5. 1-1.8 ozpalm sugar (I used 1.2 oz)
  6. 1 tablespoontamarind water
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Bird's eye chili to taste (if you want it spicy, I skipped it)
  9. as neededWater

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Prepare a chopper or blender. Blend the peanuts, chili peppers, garlic, oil, and a little water until smooth.

  2. 2

Prepare a pan. Pour in the blended peanuts and cook on very low heat until the oil comes out.

  3. 3

When the color starts to darken and only a little oil comes out, you can add water.

  4. 4

Pour in water (as thick as you like), add tamarind water, sugar, and salt. Cook until the oil comes out and the peanut sauce is thick to your liking.

  5. 5

    Ready to serve 😊

  6. 6

Note: I intentionally used oil to coax the peanut oil out, haha. It's okay not to use it, I think hehe 😂😅😁. Just use very, very low heat, ladies.

  7. 7

If you want the sauce to be red, use large red chili peppers. But using red chili peppers is quite red too hehe.

  8. 8
  9. 9

Tofu with peanut sauce...it's similar to batagor, kind of *forcing it😋

  10. 10

Fake siomay is just steamed potatoes and cabbage, then fried tofu (to make it crispy). Super delicious...maybe I'll make real siomay next time 😂😂
