Donuts with Cardamom

I learned this recipe from a website that shows it in a video, so you can see how it's made. They are very easy to make and taste great. I found cardamom in herbal stores; they are like pods with a small seed inside that needs to be crushed.

I learned this recipe from a website that shows it in a video, so you can see how it's made. They are very easy to make and taste great. I found cardamom in herbal stores; they are like pods with a small seed inside that needs to be crushed.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Place the flour, sugar, yeast packets, and salt in a bowl, making sure the salt doesn't touch the yeast.
- 2
Crush the cardamom seeds in a mortar, add the orange zest, crush well with the mortar, and add to the mixture. Mix everything with a wooden spoon, then add the milk and egg, stirring until you get a consistent and manageable dough.
- 3
Once manageable, work it on the table into a ball, flatten it slightly with your hand, add the butter, and work it again into a ball. Let it rest for 1 hour covered with a cloth.
- 4
After the time has passed, roll it out to a thickness of 1 cm (about 0.4 inches). Use a round cutter and a bottle cap to cut out the donuts, and let them rest on a tray for another hour.
- 5
In a deep pan, heat plenty of oil and fry each side until golden brown.
- 6
For the glaze, place two tablespoons of butter in a bowl and microwave on defrost for 2 minutes until melted.
- 7
Add 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar and 3 tablespoons of water, stirring well until it has a consistency. Keep adding powdered sugar until you have enough to coat the donuts.

I do not like doughnuts.I just wanted to put that out there right off the bat. In no way do I like doughnuts. They do nothing for me. To me, they are greasy and very heavy. That is, until I tried Apple Cider Doughnuts and doughnuts from Doughnut Plant on West 23rd Street in the New York City. The doughnuts there are a work of art. I highly recommend them.Recently, someone suggested to me that I should try baked doughnuts. Supposedly, they are not greasy and heavy, since they are not fried. As usual, I picked and chose ingredients from different recipes to make them the way that I like them, since I am so picky. My wonderful & beautiful wife and I bought some doughnut pans and came up with this recipe. At first, I was skeptical if I would like them, but I really do like them. They are so good.As my wife suggested, this recipe is a great starting point. We can use this as our basis and go from there. I hope that you enjoy them as much as we do.These doughnuts make a dozen 4 inch doughnuts.Enjoy! J.A.B. -
