Hint of Cinnamon Baked Sugar Doughnuts

I do not like doughnuts.

I just wanted to put that out there right off the bat. In no way do I like doughnuts. They do nothing for me. To me, they are greasy and very heavy.

That is, until I tried Apple Cider Doughnuts and doughnuts from Doughnut Plant on West 23rd Street in the New York City. The doughnuts there are a work of art. I highly recommend them.

Recently, someone suggested to me that I should try baked doughnuts. Supposedly, they are not greasy and heavy, since they are not fried. As usual, I picked and chose ingredients from different recipes to make them the way that I like them, since I am so picky.

My wonderful & beautiful wife and I bought some doughnut pans and came up with this recipe. At first, I was skeptical if I would like them, but I really do like them. They are so good.

As my wife suggested, this recipe is a great starting point. We can use this as our basis and go from there. I hope that you enjoy them as much as we do.

These doughnuts make a dozen 4 inch doughnuts.

Enjoy!

Steps

30 minutes
  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. 2

Spray the doughnut pan with nonstick spray.

  3. 3

Mix together the oil, buttermilk, eggs, sugar, salt, baking powder and vanilla until it is well blended.

  4. 4

Stir the flour into the buttermilk mixture. Mix the flour together with the mixture until smooth.

  5. 5

Fill-in the doughnut pans to about 3/4 of the way.

  6. 6

Bake doughnuts for 25 to 30 minutes. At 25 minutes, they are done, but if you want a little color to them, then bake for another 5 minutes. Up to you.

  7. 7

Take the doughnuts from oven and, if you can, let them cool for 5 minutes.

  8. 8

Now, remove donuts from pan and place them on a baking wire rack.

  9. 9

Put the cinnamon and sugar together in a sandwich paper bag. Slightly shake the spices together in the bag.

  10. 10

One at a time, drop your doughnuts in the bag and shake them lightly to cover.

  11. 11

You can either eat them right away or store them together in a different sandwich paper bag.

  12. 12

    Enjoy!

Since I was a kid, I remember sitting in the kitchen to watch and/or help my parents. As I grew up, I decided to try their recipes and experiment with different recipes. Some were very good and I re-make them all of the time. Others? Yeah, I never tried them again. All of the recipes that I post are the very good ones. Also, while growing up, my pops suffered from high blood pressure, so my mom stopped adding sodium. Since that is how I was raised, all of the dishes that I post do not have any extra sodium added to it. A lot of friends and family who try my recipes, either do not notice nor miss it. But in no way am I saying not to add salt if you use my recipes. If you want to add it, then go for it.In closing, I hope that you enjoy my recipes. If you use any, then please post pictures. Enjoy!
