Found out about these when I was studying in Kenya. They are so easy to make and delicious. #week 2
Steps
- 1
In a small bowl, add yeast and 2tbsp.of water and let it rest for 10mins so as to activate the yeast.
- 2
In a large bowl, seive in the flour, add the sugar, yeast and mix in the water little by little until you have a sticky consistency.
- 3
Once done, add the bowl with cling film and set aside to rise for an hour.
- 4
After an hour, punch into your mixture to release the air bubbles.
- 5
On a stove, heat up a litre of cooking oil in a deep pan and using a spoon scoop out the kaimati mixture little by little and carefully add to the hot oil.
- 6
Deep fry these until they turn golden brown then remove and place on a kitchen towel to drain excess oil.
- 7
After frying, in another pan, add the sugar and water, place on the stove and cook the sugar until it starts to boil. At this point u can leave it as it is or add flavor if you would like to take it up a notch like lemon, strawberry etc.
- 8
After adding your flavor, stir this for a few minutes then remove from the heat.
- 9
Add your kaimati's into the sugar syrup and mix until every kaimati is coated.
- 10
Place on a bowl and ENJOY!!!
