Steps
- 1
In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, oil, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and garlic powder or paste. Mix well. Gradually add the yogurt and knead to form a soft dough. Cover and let it rest for 1 hour.
- 2
Knead the dough again, then divide and shape into oval or round balls as you prefer. Roll each ball out to a slightly thick oval or round shape (do not roll too thin). Brush the top with butter or ghee, sprinkle with nigella seeds and chopped cilantro, and gently roll again so the toppings stick well.
- 3
Heat a skillet (tawa) over medium heat. Brush water on the back side of the naan and place it water-side down on the hot skillet. When bubbles start to appear, flip the skillet upside down over the flame to cook the top side, or use tongs to cook the naan directly over the flame.
- 4
If the naan does not stick well to the skillet, use tongs to hold and cook it, rotating until brown spots appear on all sides.
- 5
Your garlic naan is ready. Brush generously with butter and serve hot with your favorite curry or vegetable dish.
