Steps
- 1
Start with Grinding poppy seeds in coffee grinder, you want as fine grains as possible. I usually add a little sugar at each batch it will help the seeds break down a bit better (or add a small amount of raisins instead of sugar). In a pan heat milk with sugar and bring to a boil, then take it off the heat. Add ground poppy seeds, raisins, ground cinnamon and lemon zest. Mix well and let cool completely.
- 2
Roll out your puff pastry and cut in half then roll each as thin as possible. Spread the cold poppy seed filling evenly along the dough, leaving about 1 inch along the sides. Roll the dough tightly around the filling and place on baking sheet. Brush strudel with melted butter.
- 3
Place into pre-heated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until light brown.
- 4
Remove from oven and let cool before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar, slice into 10-12 and enjoy.
