Ingredients

  1. 6Sweet Potatoes boiled, peeled and mashed
  2. 1 cupgrated coconut
  3. 1/2 cupdate palm jaggery grated
  4. 3 tbspmaida
  5. 1 tbsprava or sooji soaked
  6. 2 tbspmilk powder
  7. 1 cupsugar
  8. As neededoil for frying

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Boil sweet potatoes and mash them.Potatoes should not be mushy while boiling.Soak rava with just little water to turn it soft. Add maida and mash into a smooth dough.

    Grate coconut and mix milk powder.Boil grated jaggery or gur with 1/4 th cup water.When the gur is dissolved and sticky,add the grated coconut mix and toss till dry.

    Divide the mashed potato into 10 -12 equal balls.Flatten the ball and shape into cups.Add 1 tsp coconut jaggery stuffing in it and seal the edges.Shape into crescent pulis with pointed tips or into round gulab jamuns.Toss in maida and set aside.

    Heat oil in a pan and fry the dumplings till golden brown.Make a syrup by boiling sugar or date palm jaggery.

  5. 5

    Immerse the pulis or dumplings in this syrup and give it a standing time till pulis soak the syrup. Serve delicious Shankranti special traditional Bengali Sweet Potato Puli Pithe as a dessert or snack either warm or cold.
