Rice Gratin with Easy Homemade Bechamel Sauce

I've been making this rice gratin (doria) for some time. I always used to eyeball the ingredients, so I measured them properly for when my daughter wants to make it.
When making the bechamel sauce, add the milk all at once and raise the heat to high, and just keep mixing and mixing until it starts bubbling! That's it! If you add cheese, the sauce will become richer! Leftover sauce can be used to make a special croque-monsieur for breakfast!! Recipe by Naomoka

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Start by making the ketchup rice. Finely chop the onion and peppers. Slice the sausages. Put butter in a pan and start stir frying the onion.
- 2
When the onion is cooked, add all the other rice ingredients and stir fry. When the soup cube is well crushed, add the rice and mix well. Add the ketchup and mix again, and the rice is done.
- 3
Distribute evenly in gratin or individual baking dishes.
- 4
Make the bechamel sauce: Put the butter in a wok, and when it's melted, add flour. When it's well incorporated, add the milk and soup cube, and heat while stirring constantly!
- 5
As you keep mixing, the sauce will thicken. When the sauce starts to bubble, turn the heat down and add the cheese. Season salt and pepper and it's done.
- 6
You'll end up with a beautiful, rich homemade bechamel sauce like this. Please try using it for gratin, stew and many other things.
- 7
Pour plenty of sauce over the rice filled dishes from Step 3. Top with vegetables of your choice, sprinkle grated cheese and panko, and bake in an oven or toaster oven until browned.
- 8
Creamy, rich and delicious! Homemade rice dishes au gratin are the best.

Spinach Au Gratin with Easy Bechamel Sauce Spinach Au Gratin with Easy Bechamel Sauce
I wanted to recreate the delicious spinach au gratin that I had in Cancún. The original dish used lots of butter, cream and cheese, but here, I used them modestly.* Squeeze out excess water from the spinach to prevent it from getting watery.* After adding the flour, keep on stirring with the spatula until it thickens.* If you don't mind the calories, switch the parmesan to easy melting cheese for an even richer result.* You can use soy milk instead of milk. Vegetables au Gratin with Okara Béchamel Sauce Vegetables au Gratin with Okara Béchamel Sauce
I once made this dish with kabocha squash as the only vegetable and it turned out quite nicely. Considering the balance of nutrients, I also added other veggies and some Wiener sausages into this gratin. I also had some frozen veggies that came in handy.I don't know if you can call this a Helpful Hint, but as I've written at the top, making this gratin becomes much easier if you can make use of frozen veggies! I highly recommend this when you're short on time. It's butter-free and still very tasty - if you switch the milk to soy milk, I'm sure you can cut down on the calories and make it even healthier. Doria (Rice Gratin) with Curry Pilaf and White Sauce Doria (Rice Gratin) with Curry Pilaf and White Sauce
I like the combination of curry-flavoured pilaf and white sauce. I made curry pilaf earlier so I made this dish too. By adding tomatoes and broccoli, you can boost the nutrient content of the dish.During Step 3 as you add the milk, it will be a bit thick but will gradually thin out. Stir the sauce constantly over low heat and you won't get any lumps. Instead of fresh tomatoes, you can use canned tomatoes. Just pop some into the middle of the sauce. For 2 servings. Bechamel Sauce Bechamel Sauce
Bechamel is a simple and basic sauce originating in Italy, but adopted in French cuisine, and is now known as one of the "mother" sauces. It is the base for a wide variety of sauces and soups in the culinary world. The quantity of this recipe can easily be used for two or three different dishes. Using white pepper just helps keep it a purely white sauce. You can absolutely use black pepper, which is what I do quite often.Check out my recipe, Cauliflower Bechamel, for a chance to test out using this sauce. StephieCanCook -
