Vellayappam or kallappam is a traditional kerala breakfast dish.It is a round shaped pancake made from fermented rice batter .The main ingredient of this appam is kallu (toddy) which is used as the raising agent and hence the name kallappam .If you don't have toddy ,make it with yeast .

Soak rice and poha for 4 to 5 hrs.

Grind it with other ingredients. Make a smooth batter n let it rest for the fermentation. Approx for 8 to 10 hrs

Mix well and make small round sized pancake from it,apply little oil and cover it with the lid for 2 to 3 minutes.Serve hot with Vegetable stew or coconut chutney.
