Shakkarpara

Shakkarpara is a tasty snack loved by kids as it is sweet. It is made with all purpose flour, sugar and butter. Use of butter makes it really crispy and flaky. It goes really well with a cup of tea or coffee.
This is my mother's recipe which makes perfect shakkarpara every time I make it. My mother used to make this delicious snack when I was a child as in those days it was difficult to find ready made snacks compared to present day. I have grown up eating homemade snacks so even today I prefer to make all dry snacks at home only. Even my kids like home made snacks only.

Steps

50 min
  1. 1

Add salt to the flour. Now add butter to the flour and mix it with your fingers to make it look like breadcrumbs. Dissolve sugar in 1/3 cup of water. Make a stiff dough using the same water. You can add exta one or two spoons of water if you need. Knead the dough for 2 to 3 minutes. Cover and keep it for 15 to 20 minutes. Now divide the dough into four equal portions.

  2. 2

Take one portion of dough and roll it out into a medium thick circle. Now with the help of a pizza cutter or a knife, cut it into desired shape - square or diamond. You can even cut it the way it is or you can just cut a square out of it and then cut it into smaller pieces. Collect the edges of all four portions and roll it out in the end and cut it into smaller pieces.

  3. 3

Heat oil at medium flame. Add one batch of shakkarpara to the oil and fry it for a minute. Lower the heat and fry it until light pink in colour. Take it out. It will feel soft but as it cools down, it will become crispy and it will become darker too. Fry it on low heat only otherwise it will not be crispy and flaky. Fry all the shakkarpara in the same manner.
