I tried making some oyaki-style dumplings with potatoes.

You can use dried mashed potatoes instead of normal potatoes if you'd prefer. In that case, adjust the amount of water until you get a dough that's the same consistency as your ear lobe. Recipe by ryna_barbiegirl

Ingredients

6 servings
  1. 2Potatoes
  2. 50 gramsShiratamako
  3. 1around 50 ml Water
  4. 1/2 tspSalt
  5. 1 tbspSesame oil
  6. 1Takana pickles, finely-grated cheese
  7. 1Chicken soboro

Cooking Instructions

    Steam or boil the potatoes and mash them while they're still hot. Leave the potato to cool, then mix it together with the shiratamako and water until no longer lumpy.

    Split this dough into 6 equal portions. Form each portion into a round patty shape in the palm of your hand, then wrap the dough around the filling, and neaten up the shape once more.

    Brush some sesame oil over the top of the mochi and place them in a frying pan. Steam the mochi until they brown slightly, then turn them over and cook them in the same way.

    This mochi has been filled with cheese and takana pickles. Feel free to try filling them with anko, white miso, curry, anything you'd like really ♪
