Vegetarian Burger with Sweet & Sour Sauce

I love "Shirotabi-kun"'s sweet & sour noodle sauce and I wanted to use it for burgers. I wanted to make this recipe with my amazing tofu burgers!!

The tofu I used here is Philippine tofu. It contains very little water, so it is almost like okara. If you use Japanese products, adjust the texture by adding water or bread crumbs. Sorry for the trouble! Recipe by Nooko

Ingredients

4 servings
  1. Vegetarian burger patties
  2. 200 gramsDrained firm tofu or okara
  3. 1tin Chick peas or any kinds of beans
  4. 1/4●Onion
  5. 1 clove●Garlic
  6. 1 tspVegetable stock powder
  7. 3 tbspWhite sesame seeds
  8. 1Salt and pepper
  9. 1Water and panko
  10. Sweet & Sour Sauce
  11. 6 tbspTomato ketchup
  12. 4 tbspVinegar (I like using spicy and sour vinegar from Cebu)
  13. 2 tbspMirin
  14. 1 tspSoy sauce
  15. 1/2 tspGrated ginger
  16. 1/2Onion
  17. Others
  18. 4Burger buns or any buns you like
  19. 1Tianmianjiang or hoisin sauce (optional)
  20. 1Vegetables of your choice (such as lettuce)

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

For the patties: Put a weight on the firm tofu to drain well.

  2. 2

Lightly rinse the chick peas and mash with your fork. If you microwave them for a few seconds, they will be easy to mash.

  3. 3

Finely chop the ● onion and garlic and fry them with a little oil.

  4. 4

Mix 1, 2 and 3 together and add the sesame seeds, salt and pepper. Combine all them together with your hands as you do when you make meat patties. (If the texture is too firm, add some water and if too soft, add some panko.)

  5. 5

Divide the mixture into 4 portions and shape into 4 burgers.

  6. 6

Heat a little oil in a frying pan and fry the burgers on both sides until crispy (when you fry the first side, cover with a lid to steam-fry).

  7. 7

Sweet & Sour: Put all the ingredients together in a sauce pan and bring it to the boil.

  8. 8

To finish: Prepare the vegetables of your choice, slice or shred them up and place them on top of your tofu burger. Pour on the sauce and sandwich with the bun. It's also tasty if you spread a little tianmianjiang or hoi-sin sauce on the buns.
