Ingredients

  • 1 kglamb cut into small chunks
  • 1 tbspflour
  • 2 tbspoil
  • 2 tbspbutter
  • 2onions chopped
  • 70 gramstomato paste
  • 3 tbspcrushed garlic
  • 2 tbspgrated ginger
  • 1 kgtomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 3 tspsalt
  • 1 tspground black pepper
  • 1 tbspsugar
  • 2 tspcumin
  • 2 tspcinnamon
  • 4cloves
  • 1stock cube
  • 3large potatoes diced
  • 3large carrots sliced

Steps

  1. 1

    Place the meat into a ziploc bag. Put in the flour, close the bag and mix to coat the meat evenly.

  2. 2

    Braze the meat in the pot with the oil, you might have to do this in 2 batches, and set aside.

  3. 3

    Now braise the onions with the butter until it starts to
    brown. Add the tomato paste and fry for 2 minutes.

  4. 4

    Now add the meat, garlic, ginger, tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar, cumin, cinnamon, cloves and stock cube.
    Simmer over medium heat for 40 minutes, stirring from time to time.

  5. 5

    Add the potatoes and carrots and continue simmering for another half an hour, stirring from time to time. Make sure the potatoes are cooked.

  6. 6

    The bredie improves with keeping. Prepare a day in advance and leave to mature in the refrigerator. Reheat and serve with rice.
