Soak the lentils for about half an hour meanwhile slice the onion,chop green chillies and peel ginger garlic.

Heat oil or ghee in a pan and add sliced onion and chopped green chillies and saute till onion turns pink. Now add the crushed ginger garlic and saute very well till color changes to light golden.

Add salt,pepper,turmeric and a bit of water in the pan and mix well till oil appears on the sides then add lentils well strained and keep stirring and frying well adding a splash of water frequently to the mixture to prevent from burning.

When the dal is sauteed well then add water to it to make it soft and cook covered.When the water dries out and dal is well done then take out in the dish. Sprinkle allspice powder and chopped green coriander and serve.
