Caramelized apples are rather common, but I wondered if I could make something similar with pears.
You can enjoy a different texture and fragrance from apples.

Once you add the pears in Step 3, quickly cover with the lid.
While simmering in Steps 4 and 5, keep the heat low so that it doesn't burn. Recipe by Motonogi Ami

Ingredients

2 servings
  1. 1/2Asian pear
  2. 1 1/2 tbspSugar
  3. 1 1/2 tbspButter
  4. 1 tbspHeavy cream (for the sauce)

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Cut the pears into eighths (for 16 slices total).

  2. 2

Put the sugar and butter in a frying pan and turn the heat to medium. Heat while continuously shaking the pan until the mixture has a deep brown color.

  3. 3

Once it has browned and it begins to smoke, add the pears all at once. Be careful of splatters!

  4. 4

Quickly cover with a lid and shake the pan well to coat the pears in caramel. Turn the heat down to low and simmer while shaking the pan occasionally until the pears are soft.

  5. 5

When most of the liquid has disappeared and the pears are soft, it's ready.

  6. 6

Add heavy cream to the remaining caramel in the frying pan and lightly simmer to make the caramel sauce. Use it for decoration.
