Steamed Chicken Momos

Momos are originally from Tibet (Nepal) and they are similar to Chinese Dumplings 🥟 locally called “ Baozi” and “Jiaozi”. Japanese “Gyoza”, Korean “ Mandu” and Turkic “Manti”.
So traditionally it uses a lot of yak meat but generally chicken mince is used in it.
There are 3 different ways to make momos.. Originally it is steamed, then comes the shallow fried+ steamed method and finally the deep fried one ( which will totally change the original taste and texture of-course)
In this recipe I am sharing with you the traditional steamed method.

Steps
- 1
Make the dough and cover it with a cling wrap and let rest for at least 30 mins- 1 hour.
- 2
For the filling, take a big mixing simply mix all the ingredients in chicken mince and keep aside.
- 3
Now flatten the dough into a big thin roti. The thinner, the better. Then use a round shape cutter to cut small discs.
- 4
Put 1/2 tbsp of filling in each disc and fold into shapes. You can use water to seal the ends but not much needed.
- 5
In any big pot, add about 1-2 glass of water and bring to boil. Take a steaming stand and brush it with oil. Place the momos on it and place the stand in the pot. Cover with lid. Cook on medium flame for exact 12 mins.
- 6
Meanwhile heat a nonstick saucepan and add oil into it. Add chilli flakes and when the colour of oil changes, add rest of the ingredients. Mix it and turn off the flame. Your sauce is ready.
- 7
Serve your steamed momos with the sweet chilli sauce and enjoy 😋 They turned out delicious 😋
