Apple Doughnuts

Apple Cake, Apple Pie, Apple Clafoutis, Apple Pancakes, Apple Crumble, … I have made so many Apple desserts and snacks, but I have never tried to add Apple to Doughnuts. So, I tried. First I grated Apple and ended up adding a lot more Flour than I wished to add because of the juice from the Apple. I recommend to cut Apple into 8-10mm pieces so that the juice will hardly come out. If you wish to grate it, grate it VERY coarsely.

Steps

20 minutes
  1. 1

Peel Apple and cut into 8-10mm cubes, OR you can grate it VERY coarsely.

  2. 2

Combine Self-Raising Flour, Sugar, Salt and Cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Add Egg, Oil (OR Butter) and Milk, and roughly combine, then add Apple and Sultanas, and mix to combine. *Note: If the dough is too soft, you can add extra Flour, but do not add too much.

  3. 3

Place Oil about depth of 5cm in a large saucepan and heat to about 160°C.

  4. 4

As the dough is very sticky, wet your hands with Oil and form 2-3cm balls and carefully drop them into the oil. Slowly deep-fry doughnuts until puffed and nicely browned all over.

  5. 5

Transfer the doughnuts to a tray lined with paper towel or a wire rack. Repeat with the remaining dough.

  6. 6

Coat the Doughnuts with Cinnamon Sugar and enjoy.
