Packham Pears are native to Australia and were originally cultivated by Charles Packham in 1896. These are also grown in New Zealand, Chile, Argentina and South Africa too. These are speciality Pears that has a less symmetrical shape and has a somewhat larger size at it's base than compared to other varieties of Pears. They have a short stout shape with an irregular surface. The outer pale Yellow or Green skin covers an inner White and juicy flesh which is very sweet in flavour.
They are medium to large in size and each one weighs around 250 to 350 gm. Usually irregular in shape, these have a bulbous wide bottom that tapers to a smaller round neck.
Highly rich in Vitamin C and a very good source of dietary Fibre. Packham Pears are absolutely delicious and healthy. Nowadays these are available at many gourmet shops and are easily available. I have sprinkled a few Chia seeds on top before serving these sweeter and juicier variety of speciality Pears called Packham Pears. Give them a try if you could lay your hands on them for sure.
