Cooking Instructions
- 1
Remove the guts and cartilage from the squid. You will use the tentacles if there are any.
- 2
In a pot, bring water to a boil, insert the squid, cover the pot right away, and leave it for about 5 minutes.
- 3
Grate the daikon radish before boiling the squid.
- 4
Cool the cooked squid in ice water.
- 5
Pat dry the excess water with paper towel. Squeeze the liquid out of the daikon radish and stuff it in the squid. *Do not over-squeeze it.
- 6
Once the grated daikon is in, slice it into bite-seized pieces. It will be hard to eat if you cut it too thick.
- 7
When you cut it, if there is any space, fill it with grated daikon. Place the tentacles and the triangle part on top of the body.
- 8
Sprinkle on the mayonnaise and the chopped green onions, and drizzle on some soy sauce and it is done!
- 9
It may be hard to imagine what it tastes like, but it's really great, so give it a try.

Tender Simmered Daikon Radish with Squid Tender Simmered Daikon Radish with Squid
I heard from a TV program that squid will turn out tender if you add it to water before boiling. So when making my "simmered daikon radish with squid" recipe I added the squid before boiling, and it came out very tender. Remember to add the squid before bringing everything to a simmer. The squid will be tough and chewy if you cook it over high heat for a long time. The taste penetrates into the daikon radish while cooling off, so cook it for 15-20 minutes, cool it off and warm it up again before serving. If you prefer a strong taste, adjust it by adding more mentsuyu. Squid Daikon for Japanese-Style Bentos Squid Daikon for Japanese-Style Bentos
For my recent companion who likes Japanese flavors:* Squid Daikon* Burdock root (gobo), carrots, and green beans wrapped in chicken tenders and fried* Tamagoyaki (pan-fried rolled egg) with mentaiko (spiced roe) and green onion* Simmered arame-type kelp* Rice with black bean and mixed grains* Takuan (pickled daikon radish)Boil the daikon until it's soft.First bring the simmering sauce's flavoring ingredients to a strong boil before adding adding the squid.Don't overcook the squid; it gets hard. The broth will be squid scented.Add the water to the sauce, and then let the daikon absorb all the flavors as it simmers in the squid-scented sauce. The squid is added back in to simmer again at the end, so the squid and the daikon are both tender. Self-braising Scrumptious Rice Stuffed Squid Self-braising Scrumptious Rice Stuffed Squid
I adopted this from a recipe that I saw on TV. The TV show used a microwave to cook the squid, but the sauce did not penetrate too well, so I changed the recipe to simmer the sauce on the stovetop.-If you put too much rice inside, the squid will burst, so be careful.-If the rice is not enough, it will fall apart when you slice it into pieces.-If you have leftover seasoned rice, don't stuff it into the squid, but make it into a grilled rice balls and enjoy.-Simmer it over low heat. Try not to scorch it. For 1 squid's worth. Recipe by Komikan cookpad.japan -
