Crema Catalana from Mix

Crema Catalana is a beloved Catalan dessert, with a flavor somewhere between custard and flan.
This time, I chose to make it from a mix, but instead of serving it in traditional clay dishes, I used small glass cups and decorated the Crema Catalana with half a cherry and sprinkles.

Steps
- 1
Follow the instructions on the Crema Catalana mix packet. Although the instructions say it takes 8 minutes, it took me a bit longer.
- 2
Start by heating 2 cups milk (about 500 ml) over medium heat.
Dissolve the contents of the mix packet in 1 cup cold milk (about 250 ml) and set aside. - 3
When the milk on the stove starts to boil, add the reserved milk with the dissolved mix.
- 4
Keep the heat at medium and stir the Crema Catalana with a whisk or spoon until it starts to boil again.
- 5
Remove from heat and divide the mixture among 6 small glass cups or your preferred serving dishes.
- 6
Once cooled, sprinkle 1 teaspoon sugar on each cup and caramelize it with a kitchen torch.
- 7
Decorate with half a cherry and sprinkles.
- 8
Refrigerate until ready to serve.
