In a small bowl, mix the custard powder with a few tablespoon of milk to form a smooth paste, ensuring there are no lumps.

Heat the remaining milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Add sugar to the milk and stir until it dissolves completely.
Once the milk comes to a gentle boil, reduce the heat to low. Gradually pour the custard paste into the simmering milk, stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming. - 3
Keep stirring the custard mixture over low heat until it thickens to the desired consistency. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes. Add vanilla essence if using, and mix well.
Once the custard has cooled, refrigerate it
Just before serving, chop the assorted fruits into bite-sized pieces and mix them into the chilled custard.
