Perfect for Parties: Seven-Layer Dip

Seven-layer dip is a simple Tex-Mex (Texas & Mexico) dip made by layering ingredients.
About this recipe:
This dip is very popular in America! You can find it in supermarkets, either in seven or five layers. I used to buy it, but after seeing homemade versions at parties, I started making it myself.

Steps
- 1
First, make the guacamole.
★ For one avocado, add 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise, a little salt, and lemon juice, then mash with a fork. - 2
Cut the tomato and lettuce into 1 cm cubes.
Slice the olives into rings.
Grate the cheddar cheese. - 3
In a clear container (so you can see the layers), start layering the ◎ ingredients. Begin with the refried beans (at the bottom), then the sour cream, and so on.
- 4
The bottom three layers (beans, sour cream, guacamole) should be about the same thickness.
Then layer the tomato, lettuce, cheese, and olives in that order. - 5
From the side, you should see the three layers at the bottom!
- 6
You can add taco seasoning or chopped jalapeños to the beans for some heat.
Salsa can be used instead of tomatoes! - 7
☆ How to eat ☆
Use tortilla chips to scoop from top to bottom, getting all seven layers in one bite. - 8
The photo shows tortillas fried as they are, called tostadas.
You can break them or use them whole with the dip on top! - 9
We often use Trader Joe's 16 oz (454g) can of refried beans.
- 10
Even without a can!
Check out Brandy's recipe ID: 17907764 for homemade tortilla and bean paste.
Homemade is also recommended! - 11
This is the bean paste often served alongside rice on Mexican plates. It's called "refried beans" (pinto beans).
