Ingredients

  1. 4 cupsFlour
  2. 6 teaspoonsBaking powder
  3. 4 teaspoonsSugar
  4. 1 teaspoonCream of Tartar
  5. 1/2 teaspoonSalt
  6. 1 CupShortening
  7. 1 1/3 CupMilk

Cooking Instructions

10 to 12 minute

    Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar, and salt

  2. 2

    Cut in Shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. 3

    Make a well in the center, add milk all at once.

  4. 4

    Stir just until dough clings together.

  5. 5

    Knead gently on a lightly floured surface for 10 to 12 strokes.

    Roll out to a 1/2 inch thick.

    Place on an ungreased baking sheet.

    Preheat oven to 450 degrees for 15 minutes.

    Baked biscuits for 10-12 minutes or until golden.

    Yields 20 biscuits
