Great for Lunchboxes! Gyoza Spring Rolls

These spring rolls are packed with veggies and have a delicious gyoza flavor that kids love! You can freeze them before frying, making them a perfect addition to lunchboxes. On busy mornings, just fry them straight from the freezer—so convenient! My kids liked these even more than regular gyoza, so they've become a family favorite spring roll ever since.

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Chop the cabbage coarsely and sprinkle with a little salt (not included in ingredient list). Let sit for about 5 minutes. Finely chop the remaining vegetables.
- 2
Knead the ground pork with the sesame oil, soy sauce, salt, ginger, and garlic until sticky. Squeeze the cabbage to remove excess water, then add it and the other vegetables to the meat mixture.
- 3
Mix everything together well by hand to make the filling.
- 4
Lay out a spring roll wrapper and place one-tenth of the filling near the bottom. Roll up once, fold in the sides, then continue rolling tightly to the end.
- 5
Seal the edge with a thick paste made from equal parts flour and water (not included in ingredient list).
- 6
Heat oil to 340°F (170°C) and fry the spring rolls until golden and crispy. Enjoy the crunchy outside and veggie-packed gyoza flavor!

They’re flavorful enough to eat as-is, but they’re also delicious with mustard or a soy sauce and vinegar dip!

Handmade Spring Roll Wrappers and Gyoza Skins Handmade Spring Roll Wrappers and Gyoza Skins
I think this homemade skin/wrapper is more bouncy and chewy than storebought. It's fun to make with the kids, you can make memories as well as delicious things together. If it's difficult or just a bother to roll the the gyoza skins out so they're round, you can roll out the dough in a large piece and cut it out with a cookie cutter or something similar (like the lid of a container). I've never done it that way myself, but I've seen it done on TV in that fashion. The key is to keep rolling out the dough until you think you can't possibly roll it thinner. Veggie-Packed Healthy Gyoza Veggie-Packed Healthy Gyoza
This is a modification to a gyoza recipe that my mother taught me. You can steam-cook these gyoza before browning them in the frying pan if you'd prefer. You can naturally just use 1 pack of gyoza skins and reduce the amounts of all the other ingredients by half. Still, I think it's more convenient to make more than you need and store some in the freezer for later. These gyoza dumplings will taste best if you use ground meat that's richly marbled. Fresh Spring Rolls Fresh Spring Rolls
I love fresh spring rolls, so I make them with ingredients that we always have at my house. Using boiled eggs or shrimp turns them into colourful and gorgeous fresh spring rolls. This time I used canned young (mini) corn, but crab-flavoured kamaboko and okra taste delicious and also look beautiful when the spring rolls are sliced in half. It's quicker to rehydrate the rice paper wrappers in hot water, but if they get too soft, they are hard to handle. So I think it's better to rehydrate them in cold water until you get the hang of it to avoid mistakes. If the rice paper wrappers are still too stiff to roll, wait a little until the moisture from the ingredients soften them. They will soon be soft enough to use. For 10 rolls.
