Make this New Year’s ozoni soup with rice instead of mochi for a soft, chewy texture. Enjoy ozoni together with your little one during the New Year!

Prepare warm cooked rice (reheat if using cold rice). Mash the rice in a mortar and pestle. If it’s too dry, add a little hot water as you mash.

Once the rice is mostly smooth, add the potato starch and mix well. Wet your hands and shape the rice mixture into small cakes.

Lightly oil a frying pan and cook the rice cakes on both sides until lightly browned.

Place the cooked rice cakes and miso soup in a bowl to serve.
