Cheese melts beautifully, warming you up—perfect for a cold winter day.
The origin of this recipe
I came up with this dish because I had a lot of leftover bread crusts.
Steps

Thinly slice the onions.

Toast the bread crusts for about 2 minutes.

Add oil to a frying pan and sauté the onions until they turn golden brown.

Once the onions are golden brown, add butter or margarine and mix well.

In a pot, add 1 2/3 cups (400ml) of water and the sautéed onions.

Add consommé and salt, then bring to a boil.

Pour the soup into bowls, arrange the bread crusts on top, and when they start to soften, add cheese.

Toast for about 3 minutes.
