Ingredients

Makes 6 pieces
  • 1 cupcooked rice (about 200 grams)
  • 2 1/2 tablespoonspotato starch (about 20 grams)
  • 3 1/2 tablespoonswater (about 50 ml)
  • Sweet red bean paste or roasted soybean flour (kinako), as desired

Steps

  1. 1

    Add the potato starch to the warm rice and mix well with a spatula until evenly coated.

  2. 2

    Add the water and mix quickly, then microwave at 500W for about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

    Remove from the microwave and let it steam for about 1 minute. Wrap a rolling pin or similar tool with plastic wrap, then carefully mash the rice mixture, being careful not to burn yourself.

  4. 4

    Let it cool slightly, then shape into balls. Coat with sweet red bean paste or kinako as desired to finish.
