Som Tam is an all-time favorite salad and can be enjoyed as a side dish for lunch or dinner or even as an appetizer. Thai word Som means "sour" and Tam means " to pound".Lightly pounding green papaya and other ingredients with an wooden pestle just before serving coaxes out their flavors and helps to absorb the dressing but retains its crunch without turning it into a paste. This Thai Green Papaya Salad or Som Tam is an authentic and healthy summer recipe that is packed with flavor. Crisp and juicy raw papaya is finely shredded and mixed with an assortment of colourful vegetables along with herbs and tossed in a spicy, tangy dressing and topped with crunchy roasted peanuts .It makes a wonderful side dish with grilled chicken, meat, seafood or Thai curries along with sticky rice for a healthy and wholesome meal.
