Tom Sum/Tom Sam/Thai Raw Papaya Salad is a great option for a healthy and a quick side dish or a full fledged Salad that goes well alongside Barbeques, Grilled meat, Seafood, Thai food and even our everyday meals.
A refreshing Salad with Raw Papaya, it is absolutely beneficial and healthy. The best part is that it gets done pretty much soon as well.
It is a medley of colours and looks stunning. The sour taste and flavour that comes from the Tamarind paste added takes it to an altogether different level. It's easy and filling too. It can be had all on it's own too. It doesn't require any accompaniments to go with it actually. It is all good on it's own as well. It's a best option for a healthy Brunch or a wholesome family snack at Tea-time or Shaam ki Chai especially on a Weekend just like how my family loves to have it.

Enjoy Cooking with Zeen!

Steps

4-5 minutes
  1. 1

Peel papaya and remove seeds. Shred into thin long strips using a mandolin slicer or do it manually. Similarly peel and shred carrots. Soak in ice cold water with ice cubes for 5 minutes just before making the salad to retain it's crunchiness. Deseed and slice the capsicum too.

  2. 2

Roast the peanuts in a microwave or on a stove top till lightly browned and crunchy. Add the chillies and garlic in the mortar and crush them for 20 seconds. Add palm jaggery, honey or just sugar. It's absolutely your choice. Also add soy sauce, tamarind paste and lime juice. Mix well. It should taste spicy, sweet, salty and sour all at the same time. That's the beauty of this popular salad.

Homemaker by choice and a passionate cook by heart. An aspiring cook who actually never knew anything about Cooking until i became a mother myself. With Motherhood came the responsibilities as well and this was the turning point in my life.I started to learn the ABC's of cooking, taking help from my mother and my MIL. And time just flew. I spread my wings higher and higher. With my love for excellence and innovation, i stepped into a world of homecooks with my exposure to Cookpad one fine day on the social media. And there was no looking back since then and i have not only shared recipes here on this wonderful platform but also have made some lovely friends as well. Today iam successful because of my hard work, dedication and loads of good wishes of my family and my kids in particular.
