This is a great one to do just before Christmas in a slow cooker, ready for the festive entertaining. It makes the house smell amazing as well as giving you an easy impressive alternative vegetable side with your festive meals.
Steps
- 1
Thinly slice your cabbage and red onion. Dice your butter. Place your spices in a cheesecloth and tie up as a little spice money bag.
- 2
Mix your prepared vegetables with the rest of the ingredients (except spices). Place into your slow cooker and nestle the spice bag into the middle of the mixture.
- 3
Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Stirring occasionally. For the last part remove lid and turn up to reduce the cooking liquid to a rich coating consistency.
- 4
Spread out and allow to cool. Store in suitable containers and use as needed.
Tips
Note: If you don’t have a slow cooker. This can be done on the middle shelf of the oven in a casserole dish with a tight fitting lid at 160c for approx 3hours. Again bring out and stir occasionally during the cooking process.
