Braised Pork with Green Beans (豆角土豆炖猪肉)

Braised Pork with Green Beans—is a true comfort food from Northeast China. My grandpa used to make a big wok full of it—tender potatoes, soft green beans, and that rich, homemade broth. It fed the whole family. Enjoy!

Braised Pork with Green Beans—is a true comfort food from Northeast China. My grandpa used to make a big wok full of it—tender potatoes, soft green beans, and that rich, homemade broth. It fed the whole family. Enjoy!
Steps
- 1
Wash and trim the ends of the green beans.
- 2
In a large pot, add the pork and 3 tablespoons of water before turning on the heat. Cook over medium heat, allowing the fat to slowly render out and the edges to brown slightly. This helps prevent splashing. Add brown sugar, the light and dark soy sauces. Toss in the garlic and scallions. Stir well to coat the pork.
- 3
Add the potatoes and green beans.
- 4
Pour in the homemade stock and 2 cups water. Season with salt, black pepper, and five spice powder.
- 5
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the potatoes are tender and the green beans are soft and flavorful—about 25–30 minutes.
- 6
Enjoy warm over a bowl of rice.
