Ingredients

20-25 minutes
Serves 3-4 servings
  • 3.5 ozsoya chunks (100 grams)
  • 1 1/2 cupsbasmati rice (about 270 grams)
  • 2 tablespoonsplain yogurt
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoonred chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoonturmeric powder
  • 1bay leaf
  • 4-5black peppercorns
  • 4-5cloves
  • 1cinnamon stick
  • 1 teaspooncumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoongaram masala
  • 1onion, finely chopped
  • 1tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoonchopped ginger and green chili
  • 1onion, fried
  • For the gravy
  • 1 tablespoonoil
  • 1 teaspoonred chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoonturmeric powder
  • 1 teaspooncoriander powder
  • 1 teaspooncumin seeds

Steps

20-25 minutes
  1. 1

    Boil the soya chunks for 5 minutes, then squeeze out the water 2-3 times. Marinate them with yogurt, salt, red chili powder, and turmeric for 10 minutes.

    Soak the rice for 30 minutes. Set aside the whole spices.

    Heat oil and sauté cumin seeds and whole spices. Add chopped onion and sauté, then add ginger and green chili and sauté again.

    Add chopped tomato, all the spices, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft. Add the marinated soya chunks.

    Add the rice and fried onion. Pour in water and add garam masala. Cook in a pressure cooker on medium heat for 2 whistles, then let the pressure release naturally.
