Wash rice and split green moong dal 3-4 times with water.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker add mustard and cumin seeds. Let them crackle. Add asafoetida. Now add the washed dal rice mixture into the pressure cooker. Mix well. Close the lid and cook on medium-low heat for 4 whistles.

Let the cooker cool, then mix the khichdi gently with a spoon.

Serve hot, topped with extra ghee if desired.
Tips
For a creamier texture, you can add more water while cooking.
