Persian Cornelian Cherry Tea

A simple, refreshing sweet-and-sour Persian drink made with cornelian cherries, lemon juice, and a little sweetness. 😋
Cornelian cherries, known as zoghal-akhté (زغالاخته) in Persian, are a familiar fruit in Iran and are used in many homemade preparations, from jams and pickles to drinks like this one.
I like to make this tea with Persian rock candy, or nabat, instead of honey. It can be enjoyed warm or chilled. ❤️

Steps
- 1
Make small cuts in the cornelian cherries with a knife to help release their flavor. Add the boiling water and simmer gently for 20 minutes.
- 2
Strain the tea, then add the lemon juice and honey. If the tea is too strong for your taste, add a little more boiling water. Serve warm or chilled.
Tips
I used Persian rock candy (nabat) instead of honey and added it to the pot while the cornelian cherries were simmering.
