Grease the baking pan with 1/2 cup melted butter and add the kunafa coloring, spreading it evenly.

Spread the kunafa dough evenly in the pan, pressing it down well to make sure there are no gaps.

Pour the remaining melted butter evenly over the dough.

Spread the cheese evenly over the dough in a 1/2-inch (1 cm) thick layer.

Place the pan over medium heat, rotating it gently so the cheese melts and the bottom of the kunafa turns golden brown. Check the edges to make sure it's done.

Flip the kunafa onto a larger tray, pour the simple syrup over it, and sprinkle with pistachios.

Serve hot and enjoy!
