2 of my favourite ingredients... Mushrooms and biltong. Ive used game (kudu) biltong in this recipe.
For those who dont know; biltong is a South African spiced and dehydrated aged meat. Closest comparison being jerky though not the same thing.

Ingredients

6 servings
  1. 1 tbspolive oil, extra virgin
  2. 3/4red / yellow baby pepper finely diced
  3. 1small onion finely chopped
  4. 3/4 tbspcrushed garlic
  5. 1punet button mushrooms
  6. 1 1/2 tspmixed dried herbs
  7. salt and freshly ground black pepper
  8. 250 mlfresh cream
  9. 250 mlfull cream / whole milk
  10. 250 mlwater
  11. 1chicken stock pot / cube
  12. 1/2 cupbiltong (I've used game biltong sliced- you may substitute with fried bacon bits)

Steps

  1. 1

    Heat oil in a pan and add in onion and chopped pepper. Sauté until onion is translucent and pepper is soft then stir in garlic.

  2. 2

    Add in sliced mushrooms (cut in half then sliced)

  3. 3

    Sauté until cooked. Season with very little salt (stock will be added later), some freshly ground black pepper and mixed dried herbs.

    Mix in cream, milk,water and stock and allow to simmer for about 7 - 10 minutes.

  5. 5

    Before serving mix in biltong / bacon bits.

  6. 6

    Serve with garlic and chillie roastie or toasted garlic bread
