Ingredients

  • start of things
  • 2 tbspVegetable oil
  • 2 cloveGarlic (I use 2 teaspoons jarred minced garlic)
  • 1 mediumonion chopped (or 1/2 bag frozen chopped onion)
  • 1 lbto 1-1/4 lb stew meat
  • 3 tbspWorcestershire sauce
  • spices
  • 1 tspSalt
  • 2 tspBlack Pepper
  • 1 tspBasil
  • 2 tspOregano
  • 2 tspGround cayenne red pepper
  • 1 tspChili powder
  • veggies
  • 2 canWhole new potatoes (drained and cut into bite size pieces)
  • 1 cupFrozen corn
  • 1 cupFrozen Mixed veggies
  • 3 cupWater
  • thickening
  • 1/4 cupHot Water
  • 1/4 cupFlour

Steps

  1. 1

    In a large pot, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add garlic and onions and cook for 2 minutes. Add meat and cook for about 5 minutes.

    Add water, Worcestershire sauce, and all spices. Bring to a boil then simmer on low heat for 1-1/2 to 2 hours. (Test a piece of stew meat for tenderness at 1-1/2 hours. That's normally long enough for me but some prefer it to cook longer)

    Add vegetables, bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes.

  4. 4

    In a bowl, mix 1/4 cup hot water and 1/4 cup flour until smooth. Pour into pot and mix well.

  5. 5

    Simmer for about 10 minutes and remove from heat. Stew will continue to thicken (a little more) as it sits.

    Serve with plain buttered bread or with MamaLocks easy cheddar onion biscuits
