A christmas classic. Been making these cutout cookies for over 50 years.
Steps

Preheat oven to 350°F

Cream butter & sugar

Add anise oil, milk, soda and eggs.

Then salt and cream of tartar sifted with 3 cups of flour. Add enough more flour to make a dough that may be rolled. (Chilling helps in handling)

Roll on lightly floured board to desired thickness. Cut and bake on ungreased cookie sheets, in 350°F oven for 8-15 minutes.

Cool. Frost and sugar to decorate.

NOTE: cookies may be frozen
