Ingredients

  • 1 cupButter, softened
  • 2 cupSugar
  • 3Eggs
  • 1 1/2 tspCream of tartar
  • 1 1/2 tspBaking soda (dissolved in 2 tbsp. milk)
  • 4 1/2 cupFlour (all purpose)
  • 1/3 tspAnise oil (or 1tsp. vanilla)
  • 1 tspSalt

Steps

    Preheat oven to 350°F

  2. 2

    Cream butter & sugar

  3. 3

    Add anise oil, milk, soda and eggs.

  4. 4

    Then salt and cream of tartar sifted with 3 cups of flour. Add enough more flour to make a dough that may be rolled. (Chilling helps in handling)

  5. 5

    Roll on lightly floured board to desired thickness. Cut and bake on ungreased cookie sheets, in 350°F oven for 8-15 minutes.

    Cool. Frost and sugar to decorate.

    NOTE: cookies may be frozen
