Dice onion finely

Sautee in oil and add 1/4 cup water and simmer until onions are soft and golden brown

Boil and mash potatos

Add egg and 2 tablespoons of margarine, salt and pepper and paprika.

Add sauteed onion and mix well

Sift flower into bowl.

Add egg and salt and warm water

Knead into soft dough and cover tightly at least 1/2 hour

Separate dough into four equal parts

Roll each portion of dough very thinly on a generously floured board

Divide filling mixture into four parts

Place row of filling along edge of dough

Fold over once and cut off strip of filled dough

Starting at right, turn end of strip three tines toward left to form pinwheel

Cut and repeat

Each strip makes two knishes

Repeat until portion if diugh is used up

Whn all four sections of dough are used up there will be 32 knishes

Place on greased pan and pat oil on top of each knish

Bake 1 hour at 350

When making hours d'doeuvres knishes should be about 2 inches square making 100 knishes. When appetizer size. bake only 35 minutes
