Baked Churros

What better way to start the year than with a cup of hot chocolate and some freshly made churros?
That's exactly what we did at home: hot chocolate and churros, but in a lighter version (you know, to balance out all those holiday indulgences...).

What better way to start the year than with a cup of hot chocolate and some freshly made churros?
That's exactly what we did at home: hot chocolate and churros, but in a lighter version (you know, to balance out all those holiday indulgences...).

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C), using top and bottom heat without convection.

Bring 3/4 cup (180 ml) of water to a boil.

In a bowl, measure out 1 1/2 cups (180 grams) of flour (you can use any type, but you may need to adjust the consistency).

Add the baking powder and a pinch of salt to the flour. Mix well with a fork.

When the water boils, pour it into the bowl with the flour, baking powder, and salt mixture.

Mix everything well. Use your hands if needed, but be careful—the dough will be hot!

If needed, adjust with more flour or water. The dough should be easy to handle and form into a ball without losing its shape.

For extra flavor, you can add a tablespoon of olive oil or a teaspoon of vanilla extract, cinnamon, etc.

Place the dough in a piping bag and pipe churros onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Shape them traditionally or however you like. If it's your first time, keep it simple.

If you don't have a piping bag, shape the churros by hand and place them on the parchment-lined baking sheet.

Some people brush the churros with egg white before baking to make them crispier.

Bake in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for 10 to 15 minutes.

After baking, remove the tray and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, dip in chocolate, or add your favorite toppings.

And finally... hurry up, they disappear fast!
