Preheat oven to 350°F.

Line a 2lb cake tin.

Put flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, allspice, nutmeg and ground ginger into a bowl and mix together.

Beat in the butter until well combined.

Beat in sugar and grated ginger.

Put milk and molasses into a saucepan and heat gently until combined.

Remove from heat and combine with cake mix.

Beat in eggs.

Pour batter into tin and back for 50 minutes or until skewer comes out clean.

Leave to cool in tin for 30 minutes, then cool on rack.
