Kept seeing this recipe on Facebook and so I decided to try it .. it was so easy and so good my husband dislikes cake but ate this said it was really light and good not heavy.. next time I may try mandarin oranges with pineapples. ..

This recipe was given to me by my great aunt Barb.It is so fluffy and soft and has just the right amount of sweetness without being overpowering. She got the recipe from a church lunch sometime in the 1950s. Boxed cakes were all the rage then according to her. Since she was from RI so I put it as the origin state.

I reduced the water to 1/4 cup. Because I wanted to balance the sweetness after reading the comments at Food Network's site, I switched to lemon extract and reduced the sugar by 1/4 cup. And I folded the egg whites into the flour, rather than the other way around.I made this for a neighbor who said she hadn't had a good angel cake in years. She approved.

We Iiked my chocolate angel food cake so much that I made a parfait for it. The strawberry cream is fresh, quick and goes really well with the cake for a pretty , light, delicious dessert!
