It is a snack enjoyed at the Coastal sides of Kenya. It is super easy to prepare.
Steps

Pour yeast in a cup, add water, stir and let it settle.

In a large bowl mix the sugar and the flour.

In a sufuria heat the 1/4 cup oil for 2-3 minutes

Pour the heated oil on the flour and sugar mixture and let it cool.(If using cardamon mix it at this point)

Pour the yeast prepared earlier on the bowl and start mixing and kneading. Add water or the coconut milk until the flour is well absorbed.

Knead until soft and let it rest for 5-10 minutes until it rises. (kuumuka)

Separate the well kneaded dough into large balls.

For each ball roll into a circle and cut into six pieces.

Let the pieces sit for 10-15 minutes in a lightly floured surface so as to rise for a smooth look once deep fried.

Deep fry the pieces, letting them brown on one side before turning to the other side.

Serve with a drink tea/ any of your choice or cowpeas in coconut (recipe for another day)
