Ingredients

  1. 1/2 cupMoong dal
  2. 2 tspOil
  3. 1/4 tspMustard (rai)
  4. 1/4 tspCumin (jeera)
  5. 1 pieceDry red chilli
  6. 1/2 leavesBay leaf (tej patta
  7. 1 tspGinger paste
  8. 1 tspGreen chilli paste
  9. 1/4 tspRed chilli powder
  10. 1/2 tspTurmeric powder
  11. 1 tspCoriander powder
  12. to tasteSalt

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash the yellow moong dal (yellow lentil) in water for 1-2 times. Soak the moong dal in water for 10 minutes.
    Heat the skillet / pan and add oil.

    Once the oil is hot add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
    As mustard seeds starts crackling add dry red chilli, bay leaf, ginger paste and green chilli paste.

    Saute the ginger green chilli paste for 10-20 seconds.
    Strain the water from moong dal and add moong dal in pan. Mix well.
    Now add dry spices: red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder.

  4. 4

    Also add salt and mix well.
    Now cover the lid of pan and let the moong dal gets cook for 5-7 minutes.

  5. 5

    Remove the lid and check if the moong dal is prepared by pressing few dal.
    Sookhi moong dal recipe is done.
