Ingredients

40 minutes
2 people
  1. To grind
  2. 2 cupspinach chopped
  3. 1Onion long chopped
  4. 1/2 inchGinger chopped
  5. 2garlic cloves chopped
  6. 1/2 inchCinnamon
  7. 1/2 tbspCoriander seeds
  8. 1/2 tbspCumin seeds
  9. 1-2green chilli
  10. Other ingredients
  11. 1/2 cupBasmati or long grain rice
  12. 1/4 cupGreen moong daal
  13. 2Bay leaves
  14. 1/2 cupcarrots small chopped
  15. 1/2 cupgreen peas
  16. 2 tbspOil
  17. to tasteSalt
  18. 1 1/2water

Steps

40 minutes
  1. 1

    Wash and soak rice and daal for 15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Dry roast all the whole spices except bay leaves.

  3. 3

    Now put all the roasted spices, spinach,garlic,ginger and onion into a grinder and grind till smooth.

  4. 4

    Heat a pan. Put oil in it. When the oil is hot put bay leaves.

  5. 5

    Saute for a minute.

  6. 6

    Now add the grinded paste. Cook for 5 minutes.

  7. 7

    Now add the veggies. Saute and mix well.

  8. 8

    Drain the water from daal and rice.

  9. 9

    Put daal and rice in the pan.

  10. 10

    Add salt and water.

  11. 11

    Bring it to boil. Now reduce the flame,cover with a lid and cook for 15-20 minutes on low medium flame.

    Switch off the gas.

  13. 13

    Let it rest for 10 minutes.

  14. 14

    Open the lid. Stir with a spoon.

  15. 15

    Serve hot with your choice of accompaniments like papad,salad, yogurt and pickle.
