When making wontons, you often end up with extra wrappers. Actually, wonton wrappers can be used to make a variety of snacks! This time, I'm sharing how to make shumai using wonton wrappers. (Makes 7 shumai, about 47 calories each)
Steps
- 1
Combine the store-bought shrimp and squid paste with all the seasonings. Mix until the filling becomes sticky.
- 2
Form a circle with your index finger and thumb, place a wonton wrapper on top, and spoon in about 20 grams (about 3/4 ounce) of filling. Push the filling down into the wrapper to shape it like shumai.
- 3
Gently shape the shumai and arrange them on a steamer tray lined with parchment paper. Top each with a small dried shrimp or goji berry for decoration.
- 4
Place a steaming rack and the steamer tray in an electric rice cooker. Add 1 cup of water to the outer pot, turn on the cooker, and steam until cooked through.
