For the potli stuffing, heat oil in pan and add onion to it. Then add the chopped ginger.

Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt and sugar to taste. Add the mashed potato and mix well. Keep tht stuffing aside to be used later.

For making the potlis, add a tsp of salt in all purpose flour and mix well. Then add 1 tsp oil and make a dough. Divide it into equal portion and make each portion to a small sized ball.

Take each dough ball and make it slightly flat with the pressure of your palm. Then place small amount of potato stuffing in the middle of the flat surface of the dough and give it a shape of potlis.

Similarly, prepare all the poltis and keep aside.

For making the dal, clean the masoor dal in water and add it to a pan along with the water and salt. Place the pan in high heat and bring the water to a boil. Add the dal and let it cook.

In an another pan, add oil, add the dried chilli, cumin, bay leaf and saute for 1/2 min. Then add chopped onion and chopped garlic and saute for another 1 min. Add tomato, salt and sugar.

Then pour the boiled daal to the pan and bring it to boil. Once the dal starts boling, add the potlis and boil for another 1 min on simmer. Add ghee.

After a minute, turn off the flame and keep the potlis covered for 10 minutes. It will get cooked in the heat.

Serve the daal potlis with chopped onion, chopped tomatoes and coriander leaf or some side salad.
